Galileo’s daughter, Virginia, and his housekeeper are busy with their domestic work, the men continue their scientific study, and Galileo reads. The unexpected arrival of Ludovico provides a clue to the fact that Galileo’s sight is failing (he can’t immediately see who it is). Ludovico asks Galileo about his current work and expresses gratitude that he appears to have forsaken the scientific experiments previously proscribed by the Church. He also brings the news that the new Pope is likely to be Barberini, a man with a scientific background. |
