Performance: Cittagazze

At this point in the play the audience has seen Lyra follow her father through the northern lights but they don’t know what happened next. Filmed as in performance, this sequence starts with the end of the previous scene – the starlight of the witches council in Lapland. As the music starts the giant tree and starfield fly out to reveal a video projected seascape within the rotating and descending drum revolve. On top of the drum are Lyra and Pantaleimon (Anna Maxwell Martin and Samuel Barnett) searching for food in a deserted mediterranean café. They don’t find any but they do find Will who has reached Cittàgazze by an even more unlikely route – via a bus shelter on the Oxford ring road.
