Creating A Fake Head

Kelly Williams: Making the wax head

The boy in 'The Juniper Tree', played by actor Kelly Williams, gets his head chopped off by the lid of a heavy wooden trunk. The trick uses a realistic fake head and Kelly talks about the uncomfortable process of having the head made in the props room: cold, wet layers of plaster were packed over her head until it was completely encased. She was relieved that Bill Talbot, the Head of Props, gave her a signal to make if she was in distress but says it was a good exercise in sitting still and breathing deeply.
