Production manager Garry Ferguson talks about the two main health and safety issues at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre: the use of smoke and pyrotechnics. Since the theatre is a historic building, there are very strict fire regulations and before pyrotechnics can be used in a performance, Garry has to assess where they will be placed, the size of the pyrotechnics, the fire precautions that have to be taken and the area where debris could fall.
