David Farr: Running a theatre

What's involved in running a theatre? One of the artistic directors of the Bristol Old Vic, David Farr, tells us that one has to be political, organised, and able to look a long way ahead. He has to deal with people who may not be familiar with how theatre works, like politicians, members of funding bodies, as well as the wider community. Simon Reade shares the role of artistic director, and David says that this arrangement works well since they have complementary skills and can share the hefty workload.
