 | | David Farr: Responsibilities of the artistic director | | | |
David Farr believes that he is first and foremost answerable to the audience. He must ensure that the shows are attracting people to the theatre, and that he is putting on productions that people want to see, as well as introducing them to new things that they may not know they want to see (like Beasts and Beauties ). He also has legal and contractual responsibilities and must work with the Old Vic's Board of Governors, who must be confident in what he's doing both artistically and financially. Since there is also public money involved, he must make sure that he is using it wisely. |
