Jonathan Church: Set design issues

Director Jonathan Church says that the design for The Crucible started out with a very practical consideration: making sure that the set would fit all the touring venues. They had two options: to create a flexible environment that could easily be adapted or to make a set that was so fixed it would fit into all the spaces. Since the play is driven by the characters and arguments, they decided to create a simple set that made a statement.
