Jonathan Church: Director's role in casting

In this production, director Jonathan Church was lucky to be able work with casting director Siobhan Brecke since directors must often do the job alone. When thinking about casting, Jonathan considered two things: actors he had worked with before and what he was trying to achieve. The casting director's wide knowledge of actors was useful: Jonathan could tell her what qualities he was looking for and she could suggest suitable actors. Still, there were many since this production requires a long commitment because of the touring. As is normal in casting, established actors, because of the director's prior knowledge of their work, were offered roles without an audition.
