Jonathan Church says that it was very important for him to find actors he could work well with and who would get along easily with other members of the company. He was looking for creative people who would contribute as much as they took, and who would bring something to the part that they were auditioning for. Flexibility and versatility were qualities he was looking for, since many actors would be asked to understudy another part.
