Designer Simon Higlett says that he is very open to discussing his ideas for a costume with the actor. He will show him or her a black and white sketch with photocopies around the outside of different variations on the theme. With period shows, the design is relatively fixed but the actors can influence the colours chosen since Simon will show them a colour palette and they can select what suits them best from this range of colours.
