Simon Higlett: Using modern references

Designer Simon Higlett says that sticking to the period is not always the most effective way to design a costume for theatre, and he often uses modern references to make the play more relevant to the audience. When designing the costumes for the girls, for instance, he chooses to give Abigail’s dress a lower neckline than the others’ to allude to her use of her sexuality.
