Act 2 takes place in John Proctor’s house just before dark and lighting designer Mark Jonathan says that they must create the effect of sunset through the open doorway. There are also candles lit inside the house and a fire burning, and Mark says that lights are shone from the sides of the stage and from above to reinforce this effect.
