The third act takes place in the vestry of the Salem meeting house, where there are three really big windows with leaded lights upstage. Lighting designer Mark Jonathan wants to imply that there are three more windows on the wall where the audience is sitting. To create this shadow effect, he uses a gobo – a metal plate with the image of the windows cut out – which he places between the light and the lens.
