Steve Ball: Changing role of theatre

Education director Steve Ball says that theatre in England has traditionally been seen as primarily for white middle class actors and audiences, and the Birmingham Rep Theatre, along with theatres nationwide, is trying to break away from that. Through studio and outreach work, the Birmingham Rep has started up new initiatives such as a South Asian Youth Theatre which is allowing South Asian students to use drama and theatre to explore and negotiate their culture.
