Carpentry plays a big part in The Crucible since the whole aesthetic of the play involves a lot of wood. The designs for the furniture were simple and practical, typical of the puritanical lifestyle at this time. Most of the props, consisting of many chairs, benches, and stools, were made from scratch in carpenter Alan Bennett’s workshop at the Birmingham Rep.
