Theatre manager Nigel Cairns describes a fire that took place on the stage at the Birmingham Rep. A piece of set with drapes behind it was flown onto the stage, and as the drapes were opened, the fabric caught the spotlights behind it. The audience and the front of house staff were aware of the fire before the people on stage were, so they called the fire department, the fire was put out, and the show continued 20 minutes later.
