Nigel Cairns: Theatre manager’s typical day

On a regular day, theatre manager Nigel Cairns gets into the office at 10 o’clock, has a big cup of coffee, checks the post, and then spends a few hours replying to emails, usually from audience members or salespeople. He is involved with anything related to what’s happening on stage or around the building, such as giving backstage tours, scheduling the rotas for people who work front of house, and talking to the general manager of the box office about building-wide issues.
