Jonathan Church: Developing the role of Reverend Parris

Director Jonathan Church says that actor Pip Donaghy, who plays Reverend Parris, worked out his character early in the rehearsal period. The early decisions made about this character were stuck to until after the previews for The Crucible . At this point, Jonathan Church asked Pip Donaghy to fine tune his character, since he thought that in the courtroom scene in Act 3, Reverend Parris came across as too bigoted and unreasonable.
