Oliver Cotton: Class differences

Actor Oliver Cotton, who plays Danforth, says that there is no information about his character’s back story in the play, though we do know that he is from a legal family, and it’s clear that he is well-educated. When Hale asks him to prove that there is witchcraft, he makes a good point: in an ordinary crime you would prove innocence by bringing out witnesses, but witchcraft is invisible so is hard to prove.
