Michael Sheen: Contemporary relevance

Michael Sheen thinks that modernising the play, and setting it in a former soviet bloc country that’s trying to prove it’s democratic, makes the play directly relevant to what’s going on in many parts of the world today. He says that the character he plays (Martin Gammon) is a good critique of western celebrity culture and the tendency to buy into a fantasy in order to compensate for a feeling of hollowness.
