Costume design

These drawings by designer Jessica Worrall were used by the costume department at the West Yorkshire Playhouse to make accurate costumes for the actors in The Wars of the Roses. All of them play multiple roles and as the budget is limited their costumes have, wherever possible, to use a basic design (like trousers and an over-jacket). For example, you can see in the designs for Buckingham that Mark Stratton wears the same trousers for John Talbot in Henry VI as for Buckingham in Edward IV. If you look carefully from left to right in many of the images you will see how the designer subtly changes the costumes worn by the same actor. The most notable change for all the characters comes in Richard III where the costumes signal that the action has moved into the present day.
